Heat Action Day in Limbeek, Eindhoven

#HeatActionDay is an international awareness campaign that takes place every June 2nd, focused on raising awareness about heat risks. Different cities in the Netherlands started organising actions around this topic, and this year Eindhoven joined by organising an activity at ClimaGen's intervention site: Limbeek.
To approach this topic, Eindhoven has been working on a methodology that focuses on three main areas of impact (public space, the built environment, and health) and built the day around one activity for each theme:
Health: the Red Cross joined to share information with residents and answer any questions they might have.
Public space: participants took part in a neighbourhood treasure hunt, completing activities designed to highlight how the environment influences heat stress from a sensory perspective. For example, they compared how a street with little or no shade feels to one lined with trees.
Built environment: a quiz raised awareness about how people can keep their homes cool in summer, showing which interventions actually work and which ones don't.
Participants who completed all three activities were eligible for prizes, including a box of native plants selected for their potential to contribute to local cooling and support biodiversity.
By the end of the day, a nice group of residents had participated in the activities, and all of the native plants had been distributed. The event sparked meaningful conversations about residents' experiences of their neighbourhoods and what they value in their local streets, illustrating how simple, community-based activities can create opportunities for genuine engagement and provide valuable insights into local priorities.
